In 1984, he purchased Robert J. Honig and Associates which consisted of 2 offices, 20 Realtors® and approximately $20 million in residential sales. He changed the company name to Honig Realty and quickly grew to the #1 real estate firm in Will County with 7 offices and over 200 agents. Ed realized that the real estate industry was quickly becoming more than just a local business and began looking for a national brand to help maximize exposure to areas outside of Will County. After researching all real estate brands, one stood above all others, Coldwell Banker.
In February 1997, he purchased Coldwell Banker Bell. The newly formed Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell consisted of 14 offices and over 400 agents. This merger strengthened the company position as the #1 selling firm in the county.
The company has been on an aggressive growth pattern quickly surpassing competing franchises. In 2015, Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell purchased Coldwell Banker The Real Estate Group and extended its growth within the Midwest by acquiring Coldwell Banker Heart of America in Bloomington, Illinois.
In 2017, the final stage of the merger was completed when the Illinois side of the company changed its name from Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell to Coldwell Banker The Real Estate Group to match Wisconsin.
We are now the largest Coldwell Banker franchise affiliate in the United States, #1 in Illinois and #1 in Wisconsin. Coldwell Banker The Real Estate Group has been honored with the prestigious Coldwell Banker Chairman’s Circle for 30 years. It is one of only 51 Coldwell Banker companies to receive this distinguished award.
